Maximise your storage unit

Renting out a storage unit gives you plenty of room to store whatever you want. However, it’s essential to think about how you can get the most out of your storage space. If you’re not careful, you can store things badly and reduce the amount of space you actually have.

Keeping that in mind, here’s our guide to maximising your storage unit and getting as much out of it as possible:

Put some shelving in your unit

Shelving is such a useful addition to your storage unit. Now, you can store things on various levels. As a result, you can almost double or triple the amount of stuff in your self-storage unit. Plus, you can organise the shelving in rows or columns, giving you room to walk around and find what you need. Basically, think of it as a mini-warehouse!

Organise items based on how often you use them

When you rent storage units in Chiswick, you can visit your unit whenever you like, and take anything from inside. As you can imagine, you’ll make life hard for yourself if you put all of your most-used things near the back of the unit. Instead, put them at the front. Organise your self-storage unit based on what gets used most frequently. Now, you can open the door, see the things you need, and take them without needing to root around for ages.

Take apart your furniture

If possible, you should take apart any furniture that’s put into storage. Think about it, a dismantled bed takes up far less room than one that’s fully-formed. The same goes for tables, chairs, bookcases, desks, etc. If something can be taken apart – and doing so will reduce the space it takes up – then do it!

Turn big items on their side

Similarly, large furniture items – like sofas and beds – should be turned on their sides. Again, picture how much floorspace a sofa takes up. Now, turn it on its side so it’s vertical. Instantly, you’ve cleared up lots of space for more items. In fact, you could probably fit two or three sofas in the same floor space as one that’s laid down horizontally.

Utilise internal storage

Our final tip is to take advantage of internal storage that some of your items have. For example, are you storing drawers, bookcases or cabinets in your unit? If you are, then all of these things have storage space in them! You should use this to your advantage and fill them with some smaller items. As a result, you don’t waste any of your storage unit space on items that can just be concealed within your other belongings!

When you pay for self-storage, you want to get as much value for money as possible. The best way to do this is by maximising your storage unit. If you take advantage of as much space as you can, then you can store more things in there – and keep it neat as well. This makes your unit easier for you to use, and it could mean you can save money by opting for a smaller storage unit that you initially thought.
